BankAtlantic Center - site of the next Las Vegas style casino?

Casino in Sunrise

Are you ready to look out your living room window at Tao and see a Las Vegas style casino?

According to the article at MiamiHerald.com today, Sunrise Sports & Entertainement, owners of the Florida Panthers have talked to a number of Las Vegas casino owners and operators and are interesting in bringing the concept to the BankAtlantic Center site.

Broward County Commission Chairman John Rodstrom supports the idea and said the money could go back into tourism.

While the article mentions that most of the proposed casinos focused on the east side of the metro area closer to the beach and other tourist destinations it did not mention that one other impediment to having a casino in west Sunrise is the close proximity to the environmentally sensitive Everglades. Plans for a Marriott hotel and office towers at Sunrise Blvd and Sawgrass Expressway have died down because of this (as well as that site's close proximity to a shooting range at Markham Park).

BankAtlantic Center sits in the middle of a huge parking lot. A few years ago, SS&E brought forward plans to develop the parking lot into a 'City of Oz'  The former Sunrise mayor described the development as looking as a 'tip of Manhattan' with residential and commercial office buildings being proposed for the site. Nothing has come out of that. Most likely partly because the idea was only half serious and was created to showcase the future possibilities to the new Florida Panthers owners and partly because of the economy. Uri Man, in charge of development plans for that idea was let go by the company.

Superb website you have here but I was wanting to know if you
knew of any community forums that cover the same topics talked about in this article?
I'd really love to be a part of community where I can get suggestions from other experienced individuals that share the same interest.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Cheers!
